About enterprise linux some things

Actual business projects, if necessary linux system , is deployed to write java linux system, or develop directly in the linux system ? There are about java programmer, linux need to know to what extent , of course, know better, I just want to ask what is the most basic need to know ?

with ubuntu individual development , others are using win. Servers are linux it, also a few basic commands . Actually used rarely . - This is what I know
